  1. Hello everyone this is my second attempt at my Marketing piece. I have listened to advice from Laura-Beth and have reduced the facts and figures a little and included a little description. I also have changed the question as I am trying to market the show as opposed to raising an argument.
I would love to hear your comments as I have learnt so much from reading them so far and I have enjoyed reading the conversations that have been created between one another.
Let me know what you think.

  2. Hi Abbi,
I think this piece is spot on!
It's everything I think a marketing piece of writing should be - enticing and enjoyable to read, to the point, informative yet never boring, exciting, and more over it has definitely made me want to go and see the show on Broadway!
    Great job!

  4. Hello Abbi,
I much prefer this draft, the font is perfect for the piece. I have found this very interesting article on the internet, http://www.quintcareers.com/resume_fonts.html, it really does stress the importance of the font in creating writing styles. I think the apperance of a piece is the most important thing to a piece of writing, and I like to identify the purpose of a piece from its presentation and font style. Do you think that apperance is important or do you feel the content of the writing is the most important?

    :)

  5. Thank you. I chose this font because I think it’s strong so it’s perfect for making a statement or enticing a reader as well as being easy to read. I really do think that it is important to have the right font for a piece. I did mention it to you about changing the font for your descriptive piece and make it more relevant to the town Stratford and you did change it even thought I now think it should have be bigger, but I know that changing it for the better has made it very appealing for me and another reader. I am glad that you have researched website and realised how important it is and how interesting it can make your work.

I think that it’s just as important to have good content and have an interesting appealing font as without the font you can’t attract the person to read it, and without good content you can’t expect them to continue reading it? I think that the majority of products or services are more successful if the advertising/marketing attracts people’s attention by things that look nice and appealing. I think that we can easily look at something and judge if we are interested or not before reading into it. A few examples would be I buy a nice new sparkly top, I buy it because it’s pretty, and it got my attention and straight away pictured everything that it would go with. I get it home, wear it out, and then find out its dry clean only. Rubbish. I recently went on a wine tasting trip and the co-coordinator of the trip had researched that many people who don’t know much about wine will pick a bottle with a label that looks nice and fancy or a bottle of wine with a big brand name on it for instance Hardys or Jacobs Creek. They then think this is a good wine because of some fancy writing or a name they have heard of, turns out that its probably not a nice bottle of wine and the reason the brand does so well is because people buy it because of its amount of advertising.

I am not trying to prove that good fonts will make everything people market successful but I do believe that they will certainly help.

  6. I definitely agree and i can relate to your sparkly top issues!
Everything leads back to the old metaphor, 'don't judge a book by its cover'. Which unfortunately, is very apparent in present situations, including dance auditions! There have been many times when I have seen the best dancers cut from rounds because of what they looked like.

I find it difficult to change the fonts and sizes on my blogs however the word processed version is much more decorative.

  7. Classic metaphor, if I had a quid for every time I saw the better dancers axed from an audition due to their image I would be a billionaire. I was having a conversation about this to Lucy Florence not long ago. I think that it’s so important to have a look at what image people are portraying as they are advertising themselves. You have to change your hair, your make-up, the clothes you wear, the way you act in auditions all to suit the company that you are auditioning for. It’s a shame to think that one of the best dancers in the room will get cut because they don’t look right or stick out for looking plain/commercial, but that’s the industry.

It is hard to change the fonts to something really interesting as there aren’t many to choose from but there are some options so something’s better than nothing. I know what you mean though, the word documents will be better as word seems more up to date. I have just got windows 7 put on my laptop and its mega different and very technical. I am still trying to get my head around it!

  8. Window's 7 cool! However I am a Mac!

I have looked at your post's of your final drafts and I think the fonts you have decided on as we said above set the dynamics of the piece of writing before any content is read.

The Marketting piece gives me the impression of an old New York typewriter being used quickly to create a poster for a billboard.
The Descriptive piece reminds me of a children's story book, juxtapositional with pictures.
The Academic piece subsequently looks factual and i could see it being part of a book.

I think todays technology and creativity that can be used on a piece of writing aids the reader immensely, for I have not read your final drafts (as yet) but I can still decipher the style and topics of them.

  9. I would buy tickets right now! ;)
I like your marketing text, because it is good to read and it contains all information you need to know, before you visit the musical. You inform the reader, but you do not give too much away. That makes the reader curious. Once a reader is curious, you win. The curiosity makes the reader research more about the musical and finally makes him buy tickets for the show, which is the aim of such a marketing text. Well done!
